In 1985, a young man named Michael Brett observed a company full of resentment in the workplace. He was born into the Scots community of the town of Port Renfrew, British Columbia, and began working as a logger at the age of 14. However, he soon discovered that there was a lack of leadership experience among the other crew members, and the entire group seemed chaotic.
Determined to make a difference, Brett began to study leadership. He taught himself conflict resolution, communication, and persuasion by reading books on the subject. As he gained experience as a logger and saw more problems within his community, he knew that it was crucial for the team to have trained leadership.
