In 1985, a young man named Michael Brett observed a company full of resentment in the workplace. He was born into the Scots community of the town of Port Renfrew, British Columbia, and began working as a logger at the age of 14. However, he soon discovered that there was a lack of leadership experience among the other crew members, and the entire group seemed chaotic.
Determined to make a difference, Brett began to study leadership. He taught himself conflict resolution, communication, and persuasion by reading books on the subject. As he gained experience as a logger and saw more problems within his community, he knew that it was crucial for the team to have trained leadership. That was when he decided to throw himself into organizational development work and offer professional leadership development programs.
