NASA’s Futuristic Supersonic Flyers Set to Blast Off in 2000 Words
The last 50 years have seen a great deal of progress in the field of aviation. From the Wright brothers’ first powered flight in 1903 to Airbus’s recent A350 plane, engineers and designers have been dreaming up new ways to travel faster and farther. One such project is NASA’s Supersonic Transport Study (SST). Developed during the 1960s, the SST was an attempt to create a supersonic jet that could fly at speeds of up to mach 2.5.
However, the project was plagued with problems. The primary problem was noise pollution. As planes travel faster, they are able to become significantly more efficient, but this also means that sound waves travel faster as well.
