Discovered on a picturesque farm in Ohio, Daniel Everett was just a child when his family relocated to New England. From a young age, Everett showed incredible intelligence and curiosity about the world around him. He quickly became known for his ability to memorize the alphabet and read books in numerous languages, earning him a place at Harvard University.
Everett’s fascination with languages quickly led him to study linguistics, particularly the sounds and principles that comprise human speech. Driven by his desire for knowledge, he spent years studying languages like Mayan and Mapudungun, which inspired him to propose a groundbreaking theory: that every language on earth has its own set of phonetic rules and patterns, much like how a musical score provides instructions on how to play a song. This phenomenon is now scientifically known as Everett’s rule.
