3% of the world’s population still remains uncovered, including many rural and remote areas. This is according to an expert panel led by Douglas Ashford of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, US. About two billion people live outside a coverage gap. Estimated restrictions to access basic health care services, such as immunisation, are widespread in some parts of Asia and Africa with large populations.
