My family is constantly amazed by our somewhat rough-hewn countryside. From the moment we entered the tribal areas during our annual vacation to India, we were impressed by their size and strength. We’ve seen elephants pace through lush green woods and test their strength against each other on the backs of boulders during the autumn months.
Fact: Indian Elephants are the largest terrestrial herbivores. They can reach up to 9 feet tall (2 meters), 18 feet long, and weigh up to 12,000 pounds. Females tend to be larger than males.
Fun Fact: Elephants have well-developed senses of smell and hearing to talk to each other from a distance.
