With its state-of-the-art airstrip system that elevates the experience, it continues to delight visitors and locals alike. But what exactly fuels this flight of fancy? In this article, we’ll explore the history and present-day operations of New Skies for Northern Virginia Skyline’s amazing airstrip system.
The History Behind New Skies for Northern Virginia Skyline’s Unique Transformation
New Skies for Northern Virginia Skyline was once a national security facility known as CAPITAL CENTER. This nature reserve territory was built during the Cold War era and is now home to numerous government programs and companies involved in defense and research. As the years went by, it had developed into an integral part of American landscape, catering to various aviation needs of security officials, and private and corporate jets.
However, as time progressed, the site faced nationwide real estate development pressure due to its proximity to Washington. With the threat of development looming over this unique environmental sanctuary, the National Parks Service (NPS) came forward with a plan to renovate Capit Bird Sanctuary and transform it into a prime entertainment and tourism hotspot. This detail marked a crucial turning point in the park’s skyline, contributing to its indomitable growth potential.
The first stage of modernization commenced with perching the drive from Plane tree Drive (Site 1) shown in ##fig1 at Washington Dulles International Airport by late-1990s. The second phase involved constructing Capit Two Airfield with a new runway parallel to its existing east/west runway (see ##fig2)[link & Powerport enforcement diagram]. These expansion projects allowed planes hovering up to their max weights at CapitBirdSanctuary ( Table 1).
